Located slap bang in the middle of Kemang, Gourmet World previously plied its trade under the name Gourmet Garage and managed to attract a lot of attention due to its winning combination of downstairs supermarket and upstairs restaurant. The business recently rebranded and relaunched itself as Gourmet World and Kemang’s lucky residents can now enjoy three top-class supermarkets: the flagship Hero, the recently reopened Kemchicks and now a fully stocked branch of Ranch Market, which has taken up residence on Gourmet World’s ground floor.
On Gourmet World’s upper fl oor, the restaurant is still doing a roaring trade too however. The huge warehouse style interior is informal, relaxing and comfortable, in contrast perhaps with some of the city’s more fastidious high-class fi ve-star hotels. There’s a private dining room which can be booked, a wine cellar and a sushi counter. The restaurant is open between Sunday and Thursday from 10am until 10pm and until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.A full range of top quality Western and Japanese dishes are available a la carte all week round. It’s Gourmet World’s Sunday brunch deal that is currently attracting the most attention however. The brunch isn’t quite as comprehensive as some of the big hotel spreads on offer in Jakarta however the food is top quality and the Sunday chow down deal clocks in at only Rp.150,000++ per adult (or Rp.75,000++ per child), making it great value for money.
I commenced my sabbath pig out with some hot and spicy Chinese soup. I continued with a plate of Japanese beef and tempura before making a quick dash to the sushi counter and the well stocked salad bar. I then opted to skip the appetising breakfast sausages and hash browns and got stuck into some fantastic Mongolian Lamb which was beautifully tender and just right for a Sunday lunch. The brunch deal doesn’t include alcohol but plenty of fresh juices were on hand to slake our thirsts.
Some gorgeous desert treats were on hand to calm things down after my meat blow out and I finished off with a selection from the cheese board, which thankfully included some flavour some blue cheese, which I can never resist. All in all it was job well done and my companion and I shambled down the stairs like bloated warthogs before heading home for a well earned afternoon nap.Other deals to watch out for down at Gourmet World include Thursday Temptation, which runs on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Thursday temptation offers diners the chance to be gourmet guinea pigs and try
