This small yet famous restaurant-chain first opened its doors in the small town of Cianjur in West Java. After enjoying much success there, the restaurant expanded its branches in Jakarta, opening its 'flagship' restaurant three years ago. Ikan Bakar Cianjur serves Sundanese (West Javanese) food. The main characteristic of Sundanese food is a good balance between sweet and savory, and also, plenty of grilled and deep-fried varieties. The spices are subtle and not as complex as Javanese food.
Like its name, the restaurant's specialty is fish. The deep fried Gurami fish is the most popular item. This Gurami dish is deep fried until it is crispy on the outside, yet moist and soft on the inside. While on the other hand, the Sayur Kangkung can be a perfect side for all fish dishes. The kangkung is lightly sautéed in peanut oil with whole garlic cloves and a dash of salt. Simple but tasty.
