Visiting a museum can be refreshing after a week of tiring activity. Unfortunately, there is a serious lack of information about the location and collections of museums which make the public unaware about the existence of the museums in Jakarta.

To encourage people to visit museums, The Indonesian Heritage Society had just launched a book entitled Museum Encounters: Jakarta. This 100-page book is a guide to the city's 57 state-sponsored museums which provides brief overviews of the collections of each museum and interesting tidbits about some of the buildings that house those collections. This book was initiated by Mary McKay and compiled by 17 dedicated volunteers and underwritten in part by the Museum Wisata initiative of "Sampoerna untuk Indonesia" and the "Mitra Museum" foundation.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Indonesian Heritage Foundation and the funds will be used in projects dedicated to support cultural institutions throughout Indonesia. Museum Encounters: Jakarta is available at the Indonesian Heritage Society Library on the 17th floor Sentral Senayan I, Museum Nasional and bookstores.
