I
have a problem with Japanese food and I'm the first to admit it. I just
can't get enough of it. Maybe it's the fact that, in Jakarta, sushi is
not that expensive at all and the standard of quality is generally pretty
good (so long as you keep your distance from the cholera carts patrolling
downtown) or maybe it's because the stuff just leaves me feeling damn
healthy after eating it.
Lately though I've been finding it difficult to even so much as pass a sushi restaurant without darting inside for a quick Sashimi fix or at the very least a stolen whiff of someone's Miso soup. I've even considered abandoning my beloved Jakarta altogether and moving to the land of the rising sun where I will live out the rest of my days hunting down and devouring the finest slabs of fresh tuna and salmon like a wanderlust swine snouting for premium truffles.
Maybe that's going a bit too far but it doesn't hurt to indulge your fantasies every once in a while and a great place to indulge in some hearty Japanese food and Sake is Kemang newcomer Mizu.
Mizu should have an entire building all to itself such is the quality of the food. But instead it's located on the second floor of a shopping centre whose major claim to fame is the fact it houses a branch of Office 2000. Still, I didn't come for the architecture but found that the minimalist design of the restaurant – all neutral colors, natural fibers and earthy textures - provided a very pleasant, unobtrusive backdrop to our Japanese feast.
