When
asked which dish he would travel halfway across the world to eat, acclaimed
chef and food writer Anthony Bourdain confessed it would be the dumplings
at Din Tai Fung in Taiwan. He added that they were so good that ambience
didn't matter and that he would "eat them off of a garage floor".
The NYTimes voted Din Tai Fung as one of the Top 10 Restaurants in the world, and the first outlet in Taiwan is still an attraction with tourists and locals lining up around the block to get their dumpling fix.
Din Tai Fung has just taken up residence in the Arcadia Building in Senayan. And luckily, the decor is nothing like that of a garage floor, but pleasantly echoes the traditional bamboo dim sum baskets. Open and spacious, the resto can cater to a large crowd, without feeling cramped or uncomfortable. Private rooms are available, as well. The entire dining room has a view of the open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs working efficiently amid the puffs of steam.
